Michael W. Burris, M.D.
Dr. Burris was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with honors from the McCombs School of Business while completing his premedical curriculum. This was followed by obtaining a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he also completed a five year residency in Orthopaedic Surgery, serving as chief resident in 2005-2006.
Dr. Burris gained extensive experience in orthopaedic trauma and reconstructive surgery while training at a busy Level I Trauma center within the Houston Medical Center. He then elected to continue his training with a sub-specialty fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the University of Kentucky. Fellowship involved significant training in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee as well as complex knee ligament surgery. Treatment of ACL tears was a focus of training including the latest techniques in ACL surgery or reconstruction. Dr. Burris also assisted in taking care of multiple collegiate athletic programs during fellowship, including the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
Thanks to the reviews of our patients, Dr. Burris has received Patient's Choice Awards from 2008-2013. We hope this positive feedback is indicative of the care we provide to all of our patients.
Starting an orthopaedic practice in Austin was an aspiration for Dr. Burris since beginning his training. He founded Capital City Orthopaedics in 2007. Dr. Burris lives in Austin with his wife, who grew up in Austin, and two children. With the small amount of time remaining outside of work and family, Dr. Burris enjoys trail running and a good night’s sleep.
